Multidisciplinary Team (MPT) at Our Elementary School

Support for Grades 3 and 4

My name is Anna Huss. I work as a multi-professional staff member (MPT) at our elementary school and am part of the multi-professional team. The goal of our work is to provide the best possible support for students in their academic and personal development. A particular focus of my work is on supporting children in grades 3 and 4, as well as guiding them through the transition from elementary school to middle school. In doing so, I work closely with homeroom teachers, subject teachers, and the school social worker.

My responsibilities include, among other things:

  • Assisting with the observation and documentation of learning progress and development
  • Collaborating on the planning and implementation of individualized support measures
  • Guiding and supporting students during class
  • Providing support in small groups to strengthen basic skills
  • Supporting the acquisition of learning and study skills as well as social skills
  • Collaborating with teachers during meetings with parents and guardians
  • Consulting with and collaborating with parents

During class, I support individual students or work with small learning groups. Through targeted support, learning difficulties can be identified early, and appropriate support strategies can be developed in collaboration with teachers. Through regular communication within the multi-professional team, we can provide holistic support to students and offer them the best possible opportunities for learning and development.

With great empathy, patience, and dedication, I am committed to empowering each child individually and supporting them on their educational journey.

If needed, I am happy to meet with you for a conversation.

Collaborative Learning at Our Elementary School

My name is Sonja Schwerdtfeger. As a special education teacher, I work in the area of inclusive education at our school.

At our elementary school, all children learn together. This includes students with special educational needs. Every child is welcome here with their unique individuality. We view diversity as an asset: every child brings their own strengths, interests, and abilities to the classroom.

All children work on shared content, but with individual goals and different learning paths. This allows each child to learn and develop according to their personal abilities.

Special education support is currently provided at our school in the areas of language, learning, and emotional and social development. It generally takes place within the classroom and is planned and implemented in close collaboration between classroom teachers, subject teachers, the special education teacher, and other specialists from our multi-professional team.

In cooperation with parents and guardians, we design the best possible support for each child. In some cases, additional individual support and guidance is provided by school assistants.

The work of the special education teacher at our school can be divided into four key areas: support, counseling, assessment, and collaboration with network partners.

Support

Support is provided within the classroom and in small groups. Through differentiated learning opportunities, children can work according to their individual learning needs. Students with special educational needs receive additional support as needed, e.g., with organizing their work or through targeted support programs.

Counseling

As part of the team, the special education teacher advises colleagues in the mainstream school with a focus on support goals. This includes, among other things, appropriate special education measures, suitable differentiation materials, and options for individualized instruction. In addition, she is available to parents and guardians for discussions and consultation on special education issues.

Diagnostics

If learning difficulties or learning deficits arise during the school years, the special education teacher first conducts a learning-goal-oriented assessment. If necessary, she assists the classroom teachers as well as parents and guardians in applying for an evaluation of the need for special education support.

Cooperation with Network Partners

To provide the best possible support for a child, the special education teacher collaborates with mobile services and extracurricular partners as needed. Parents and guardians always play a particularly important role as key partners in this process.

Together, we create a learning environment in which every child is seen, supported, and guided in their development.

If needed, I am available for a consultation.

Language Support at Our School - DaZ

Language Support for Grades 1–4

Our team of DaZ (German as a Second Language) teachers supports students in grades 1 through 4 in learning German. The language support program is designed for both children who have recently arrived in Germany and have no prior knowledge of German, as well as children who have been living here for some time and still need support in developing their language skills.

Support takes place in small groups and is tailored to the children’s individual language proficiency levels. This allows us to address different learning needs specifically and provide the best possible guidance as the children build their vocabulary and develop their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.

An important part of our work is close collaboration with the homeroom teachers to ensure that language support aligns with classroom content and that the children receive the best possible support in their daily school life. Communication with parents is equally important to us. In meetings, we provide updates on the children’s progress and offer advice on how to support their language development at home.

We have a dedicated room with a wide variety of materials for language support. Games, pictures, books, and creative activities provide numerous opportunities for conversation and motivate the children to actively speak German and further develop their language skills.

In this way, we guide the children step by step on their path to greater linguistic confidence and successful learning at school.

If needed, the team is happy to meet with you.
