Support is provided both in the classroom and in small groups. Through differentiated learning opportunities, children can work according to their individual learning needs. Students with special educational needs receive additional support as needed, for example, with organizing their work or through targeted support programs.
School Administration
My name is Stefanie Köster. I have been living and working in the southern part of Düsseldorf for nearly twenty years, first as a teacher and later as an assistant principal.
I took over as principal of our school in August 2024. I have since become well acquainted with the lively daily life here, and I look forward to shaping school life together with the children, colleagues, and parents, and to sharing many experiences with the school community.
Our school is currently going through an exciting time:
The school building is being rebuilt, we are in the process of choosing a new name, and we are proud to become the first cultural school in Düsseldorf. At our school, community, diversity, a Christian view of humanity, and a vibrant culture are at the center—values that shape our daily interactions.
It is particularly important to me to engage in conversation with everyone involved in school life and to shape our school community together so that as many people as possible feel at home here and enjoy coming to school.
If you would like to speak with me, you can usually find me at the school gate in the mornings before school starts.
My office hours are Wednesdays from 8:15 to 9:00 a.m. Please contact the school office in advance if you would like to schedule an appointment with me.

I look forward to a trusting and dynamic collaboration!

Our secretary
Our secretary's name is Tina Steller.
She is helpful and assists the children when they need something or have a problem. If a child gets hurt, she helps him or her and notifies the parents if the injury is serious.
She also sends important information to parents.
By the way, she also takes care of other important tasks, and she has been working at our school since 2017.

Our school dog, Poppy

At our elementary school, a school dog joins the classes on certain days. He is neither a therapy dog nor a teaching aid, but rather a calm companion in our daily school life. His role is to support the children, encourage them, help them relax, and build their self-confidence.
At our school, we have a female dog named Poppy. She is a Cockapoo.
Experience shows that a school dog in the classroom can have a positive effect. Many children feel safe and relaxed around a trained dog. Poppy’s calm demeanor can help reduce stress and promote calmness. In a relaxed atmosphere, children often find it easier to concentrate, participate, and treat one another kindly.
Our school dog is always in the classroom with the teacher in charge. Her name is Ms. Mork, and she is a colleague at our school. Ms. Mork is always in charge and bears full responsibility. Poppy does not work alone with the children and is not used as a reward. Her involvement is well-planned and limited in time. We always ensure that both the children and our school dog are comfortable.
Poppy has a designated resting spot in the classroom. Everyone respects this space. When she needs rest or shows signs of stress, she can retreat there.
Our school dog can be used in various ways. Often, she is simply present in the room in a calm manner, for example during work periods or discussions. Her presence alone can have a calming effect. Sometimes there are also short, targeted interactions. For example, children can read aloud to Poppy. This helps many of them read with more confidence and courage. She also enjoys hearing stories about pictures or experiences. This is particularly suitable for shy children or those practicing the German language. Children are also welcome to relax with the dog, relieve stress, and find calm by, for example, doing short relaxation exercises or drawing in her presence.
In addition, topics such as responsibility, consideration, and treating animals with respect can be discussed. In this way, our school dog also supports social learning. Calm and relaxation activities
She is also used in small groups or for individual support. The educational goal is always the primary focus. Poppy is only involved when it makes sense.
It is important that Poppy is friendly, well-balanced, healthy, and well-trained. She undergoes regular veterinary checkups and is insured. The accompanying teacher is also appropriately trained and regularly reflects on the sessions.
Our school dog is first introduced to the children with the help of a profile sheet. The children’s parents are informed before the dog is brought in, and their consent is obtained. Allergies, fears, or special needs of individual children are, of course, taken into account.
The well-being of our school dog always comes first. Poppy gets plenty of breaks and is not overworked. She is a living being with her own needs.
The use of our dog at our school is intended to enrich everyday school life. The goal is to support the children in their development, strengthen social interaction, and create a calm and positive learning atmosphere.
