Pediatric Clinic
At any time, our students can come to see our two school social workers—either alone or in a small group—if they are feeling down or need support. The consultation hours provide a safe space where we can work together to find solutions and reach agreements.
The student counseling sessions help to:
- enhancing the children’s well-being
- resolving conflicts early on
- promote social skills
- creating a trusting atmosphere at school
Social learning
Social Learning with LUBO is a preventive support program for elementary schools designed to strengthen children’s social-emotional skills. At the heart of the program is LUBO, a hand puppet from outer space, who works with the children to learn strategies for getting along well with others and managing emotions.
Through stories, games, and conversations, students learn to better recognize their own feelings and respond appropriately to others.
Since LUBO is new to Earth and still has a lot to learn, the children can help him and, in the process, discover important social rules and behaviors for themselves.
Student Council
Our student council is made up of the elected class representatives. Here, wishes, ideas, and topics from each class are discussed, and decisions are made.
The children think things through, discuss, and help make decisions, taking responsibility for our school life.
Together with the school social worker, this allows them to experience democracy and participation firsthand and fosters a sense of community among our students.
Mediator
Every year, our fourth-grade students are trained to be mediators.
They help their classmates—for example, during recess—to resolve conflicts independently, nonviolently, and fairly by listening carefully and helping them reach an agreement.
They are regularly trained and supported in this by Ms. Hemmerle and Ms. Lendzian.
Active Recess
Last year, we purchased a large play container filled with a variety of play equipment and vehicles for use during recess. The ACTIVE RECESS takes place every day.
Our school social work team organizes the equipment lending process with the children during recess, issues lending cards, ensures the equipment is handled with care, and engages the children in an active, energetic recess.
Quiet Break
Several times a week, we also offer a quiet break. Here, children can do something peaceful during the break, such as reading, drawing, or playing in a safe space.
For many children, this break provides the necessary opportunity to retreat so they can return to learning refreshed.
School library
Our school has set up its own library, which the children love to use.
Here, they can regularly borrow and read books. But the children can also just make themselves comfortable here, relax on beanbag chairs, and choose from a wide selection of appealing books.
Ms. Lendzian and Ms. Hemmerle handle the lending process, continually acquire new books, manage the library cards, and maintain the cozy atmosphere.
The library also hosts the Reading Club and the Reading Group.
Partnership with the Hassels Neighborhood Library
Our school social work team coordinates our partnership with the neighborhood library in Hassels.
Every year, our students take part in guided tours or events at the library in Hassels. These may also include readings or plays held on-site.
In this way, the children also get to know their neighborhood and the opportunities available there better.
Media Literacy and Civic Education
Ms. Lendzian and Ms. Hemmerle regularly organize interesting workshops for our students on media literacy and civic education.
Together with the homeroom teachers, they select appropriate activities for our students and assist the classes in carrying them out.
Ready for School – Our Orientation Week for New Students
During the last week of summer vacation, our incoming students get a chance to get to know our school and school life.
Together with Ms. Hemmerle and Ms. Lendzian from the school social work team, they’ll be listening to stories, playing games, doing crafts, and exploring the school.
The new students get to know each other better and explore the school grounds and classrooms.
Registration for our orientation week during the summer break is handled by Ms. Hemmerle and Ms. Lendzian. The children will be supervised by us every day for one week.
